Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Department of Geography and Environment at UNC Chapel Hill is to conduct geographic research, education, and outreach programs that enhance global understanding of the interactions among people, place, and environment.
Position Summary
The primary purpose of the position is to fulfill the teaching mission of the Department of Geography and Environment at UNC-Chapel Hill. The new faculty member will teach introductory courses in Human Geography, which might include courses in World Regional Geography; Geographies of Globalization; Development and Inequality; and advanced courses in accordance with their areas of expertise. They will be expected to teach a total of 3 courses each semester (9 credit hours) of in-person instruction, primarily to undergraduate students, for a total of 6 courses per academic year. The faculty member will also serve on various department committees which focus on the Department’s teaching mission.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
PhD in Geography or related field
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Candidate who has received their PhD degree at a tier-1 university in the United States or equivalent with expertise in Human Geography. The candidate must demonstrate commitment to undergraduate teaching with proven effectiveness in the classroom.
